Especially since starting to write this regular post, some people have commented that I read a lot, and I suppose I do. Reading helps me think and see connections between things, and question assumptions. What did I see and question this week?

It’s the final countdown

This week some of you gathered in Boston for the 2024 UPCEA Annual Conference, and UPCEA released the report on their annual survey of continuing education.

There have been some interesting changes since last year’s survey came out and, overall there is a lot in the survey. I want to highlight two things I found especially interesting.

First, there has been a substantial increase in the number of units reporting being involved in or offering microcredentials and corporate offerings.

It would be interesting to see some follow-up work and detail how this is going, especially regarding microcredentials. Are the PCO units seeing strong demand for microcredentials, and how, for example, are they balancing the cost of producing and marketing microcredential programs with the comparatively lower cost of tuition?
